Plot Summary
Long before Dorothy arrives, two young women meet as students at Shiz University in the Land of Oz: Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), misunderstood because of her green skin, and Glinda (Ariana Grande), gilded by privilege and popularity. An unlikely friendship forms — until a journey to the Emerald City to meet the Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum) uncovers a dark secret that sets them on two very different paths: toward destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
Part 1 covers the stage musical’s first act, ending with Elphaba’s defiant flight — “Defying Gravity.”

Wicked: For Good (Part 2)
The second film, Wicked: For Good, released in November 2025, completing the story with the stage musical’s second act: Elphaba in exile as the “Wicked” Witch, Glinda as the public face of good, and the events leading into The Wizard of Oz itself. It follows the same release pattern as Part 1 and now streams on Peacock in the U.S. alongside the first film — making a double feature (about five and a half hours total) easy to plan.
