College admissions in lockdown: How to prepare for it?

With the ongoing Coronavirus crisis followed by a nationwide lockdown . There is confusion among the students regarding their college admissions in lockdown. There is a lot of chaos among the students regarding the admission procedure to be followed by them. Various restrictions imposed on transportation is one of the important concerns in the students as they cannot visit College to get an idea about its infrastructure or interact with the concerned faculty members.

Not only students who have just finished school but also final year undergraduate students are going through these tough circumstances. But we should remember that lockdown does not mean the end of our formal studies. 

Due to unprecedented lockdown, various educational institutions, Colleges and schools are undergoing various changes in their teaching pattern. They are providing online classes and many colleges are arranging for online counselling for their students.

Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on 29th May, 2020 , has stated that once board exams are over , school might be reopened across the country.

Many exams have been cancelled or postponed in India , such as JEE Main April 2020 ,the ICSE and ISC exams have been postponed . IIM Bangalore has postponed their convocation.

Corona virus has affected the school level exams, which will delay the admission in undergraduate degree and diploma courses.

With the JEE Mains exam postponed , the admissions in various engineering colleges are being affected.

CBSE has postponed the class 10th and 12th exams and revised schedule has been released. ICSE and ISC have also uploaded the revised schedule of board exams.

Maximum schools and colleges are conducting regular classes through webinar, YouTube, Google classroom and Zoom meeting.

Having knowledge about a few important things can help students prepare for their College admission. Here are some useful tips:

DO PROPER RESEARCH

Most important thing for a student seeking college admissions in lockdown is having complete information about it. Student must remember that their requirements may vary from one another. Affiliations , faculty , infrastructure, study material and placements are few important factors which a student must keep in mind while selecting a college.

Students must go through the College website, social media and news portal to have a brief idea about the College.

CHECK OUT COUNSELING OPTIONS

College admissions in lockdown: Even though the present situation due to Coronavirus crisis is very tough for the final year graduation students and Class 12th students. But they must stay focused on their academic goals. Many colleges and educational institutions are providing online counselling .

MAKE YOUR DECISIONS ACCORDING TO YOUR OWN INTERESTS

Students must choose subjects or courses according to their own interests. They should explore their interests, hobbies , strengths and choice of progression before opting for a course or subject. Lack of guidance, pressure and wrong decisions can spoil their whole career. Students must also not fall for parental pressure while choosing their courses.

Students must remember that everyone is not for becoming an engineer, doctor, writer , lawyer etc. Here , the role of parents plays a major role as there can be grave impacts of wrong decisions.

POLISH YOUR PERSONALITY

Students must give proper attention to grooming their personality. They must attend online lectures, webinars- whether it is academic or important job skills. These classes will provide them long time benefits.

If a student is planning to take admission in mass communication or management then besides having a good academic record one must have a good personality and communication skills. 

This lockdown also gives ample time to students to devote their time in Extra curricular activities such as hobby classes , participating in quizzes and group discussions.

PRACTISE MEANS BETTER PREPARATION

Aspirants of various competitive exams such as JEE , NEET ,etc are advised to follow a schedule and revise their syllabus thoroughly. They must practise more and more questions. They must keep themselves updated about the latest dates and exam patterns.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has uploaded a revised academic calendar for technical institutes in the country. They have stated that counselling and seat allotment in engineering colleges will be completed before 15 August, 2020.
