Batman | All different takes on the Character

Batman is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by DC comics. He has been displayed as a superhero in the book. The character was created by Bob kane and writer Bill finger and first appeared in detective comics in 1939. The character is commonly referred to as the Dark knight and the world’s greatest detective.

Characterization

Batman’s real identity is Bruce Wayne , a wealthy American playboy who is also the owner of wayne enterprises.  He is also a philanthropist. Batman is originated from an incident in Bruce’s childhood, after witnessing the murder of his parents. The death of his parents made him so furious that he swore vengeance against criminals and took an oath tempered by sense of justice. In the later years of his childhood Bruce trained himself physically and intellectually and crafted a bat inspired persona to fight crime.

Batman operates in the fictional Gotham city with assistance from various supporting characters. Including his butler Alfred, police commissioner Jim Gordan and vigilante allies such as Robin.

Popularity of Batman

Batman became popular soon after his introduction in 1939 and got a comic book names on his own character which is Batman in the following year. However, unlike other superheroes Batman does not possess any inhuman powers. But he does possess a genius level intellect and is a commendable martial artist. His vast wealth helps him afford an extraordinary collection of weaponry and various equipments. The success of Batman featured films have helped maintain the character’s prominence in mainstream culture. Batman has been licensed and featured in various adaptations and on various platforms such as radio , tv and film.

The image of Batman is in contrast with that of the superman, whose Clark kent persona is the true identity while the superman persona is the facade. Writers of Batman and Superman stories have often compared and contrasted the two. Interpretations vary depending on the writer, the story, and the timing. Grant Morrison notes that both heroes “believe in the same kind of things” despite the day/night contrast their heroic roles display. He notes an equally stark contrast in their real identities. Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent belong to different social classes: “Bruce has a butler, Clark has a boss.”

For the longest time Batman has remained the most popular character of DC and has been successful in entertaining people though his dark personality. It also makes sense in terms of how successful the character’s other ventures outside of the comics were such as tv, movies , video games etc. Besides carrying such a dark personality Batman has still managed to be at top preceding the Superman.

Different actor versions of Batman

Batman, the caped Crusader has been portrayed by more actors than any other superhero in the film industry which is eight to be exact.

  • Adam West
  • Michael Keaton
  • Val Kilmer
  • George Clooney
  • Christian Bale
  • Will Arnett
  • Ben Affleck
  • Robert pattinson

Most of these actors lasted for just one film, but after The dark knight rises, Christian Bale became the first man to have played Bruce Wayne and his alter – ego more than twice on the silver screen. Although he didn’t have much competition at that time as Michael Keaton was the only actor to reprise the role .

Ben Affleck tied Bale for appearances as Batman with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. His Suicide Squad cameo, and 2017’s Justice League. That run will not extend to a fourth film, though, as Affleck has exited the role. Instead, Robert Pattinson is your new Bruce Wayne.

New version as Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson will be playing Bruce Wayne in the upcoming movie of Batman. Batman is around 30 years old in the film and neither an experienced superhero nor a beginning crime fighter. Director Matt Reeves stated: “I just felt like well, what I’d love to do is to get a version of this Batman character where he’s not yet fully formed. Where there’s something to do in this context with who that guy would be in this world today, and to ground him in all of these broken ways. Because at the end of the day, this guy is doing all of this to deal with trauma in his past.”

Pattinson as mentioned above has been avoiding major franchises after his Twilight films as he wanted to avoid paparazzi. Found those roles dull but signed on to play Batman because he found the character’s lack of superpowers interesting. He described his Batman as flawed, unlike traditional comic book characters, and said his voice was inspired by his Lighthouse costar Willem Dafoe’s voice in that film.

The Batman is scheduled to be released on October 1, 2021 in United states. It was originally scheduled to be released on June 25, 2021 but was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.
