Shri Amar Singh passed away at the age of 64 in Singapore on 1 August 2020. He was one of the former leaders of Samajwadi party and an MP in Rajya Sabha. For several months Amar Singh was hospitalised in Singapore. In Singapore he underwent treatment for his kidney ailments. Spanning over a decade, he has been facing health-related issues. Moreover, he went through a kidney transplant a few years back in Dubai.
Amar Singh was born on 27 January 1956 in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. He served as the general secretary of the Samajwadi Party. On 6 January 2010, he resigned from all posts of Samajwadi Party. Later on Mulayam Singh Yadav, Samajwadi Party chief expelled Amar Singh from the party.
Subsequently, Amar Singh retired from his political career on account of spending more time with his family. His words were, “I want to give more time to my wife and family.”
Amar Singh was also part of several controversies. In addition, On July 22 he accused the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati of kidnapping six MPs from his party. He was in the news for asking a probe in Batla house shooting case. Adding on to the controversies, he was accused bribing three parliament members of Bhartiya Janta Party as per an accusation. As a result to this accusation, Singh was in Judicial Custody in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
Several recognisable faces of Indian Politics took over Twitter after Amar Singh Passed Away. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolence. He tweeted, “Amar Singh Ji was an energetic public figure. In the last few decades, he witnessed some of the major political developments from close quarters. He was known for his friendship across many spheres of life. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti”. President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy and many others grieved on twitter. They prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
