DU to begin academic session: University of Delhi(DU) is a public tye university. It is established in 1922, i.e. 98 years ago. The vice chancellor of the university is Pooran Chand Joshi. The university has grown into one of the largest universities in India. There are around 16 faculties, 86 departments, 77 colleges and 5 institutes. It also has one of the highest publication counts among universities in India. Recent Updates on Academic Session
University of Delhi popularly known as Delhi University(DU) has recently announced a huge decision. It is regarding the academic session. Due to the pandemic, the academic session didn’t commenced. The 1st and 2nd year students promoted without any final semester.
DU to begin academic session.The academic session 2020-21 will be commencing from August 10. The university decides to start the classes in online mode. Classes for the III, IV and VII semester of UG and III semester of PG course will be conducted. The university has also announces a summer break till August 9.
The Delhi University will hold open-book exams from August 10 for final year students. But the university is facing opposition from the teachers and students. They are demanding to scrap the exams. They also demand to promote the candidates on the basis of past performances.
The university decided to commence from July 10 but it got postponed due to COVID19. The university took the decision after considering the UGC revised guidelines.
However, The students are challenging DU’s decision in Supreme Court regarding safety concerns. The hearing is still going on. The High Court is now handling the case. On 29 July, the Court asked DU to file an affidavit on mock test and CSC’s status. It also suggested to file on scribes for visually disabled students.
Updates on New Session of 2020
UGC decided to start the new academic session later. This is because the COVID19 continues to keep campuses and universities on a hold. The Cetral University of Haryana vice chancellor R.C. Kuhad wrote to UGS discussing the same. He wrote that the admissions of UG and PG courses should be completed by the October end. He also wrote that the new sesion sholld commence by November beginning.
For PG courses, the admission should be completed by November end and session should commence from December 1.
The HRD Ministry appointed Kuhad Committee to recommend the academic caander for 2020-21. Earlier, they recommended September-October session calander but it dropped. Due to no improvement in the situation it got delayed.
The committee suggested to take final year’s exam either online, offline or both. They also insisted to complete all the exams by September 30.
The panel suggests to start Bachelor’s Degree session from November 2. Master’s Degree should start from December 2. However, the pushing further of sessions dicussions will go on in coming weeks.
Updates regarding Non-final Year
The non-final year students promoted on the basis of average performances and internal assessments. However, there is no official notification regarding no-final year students in the announcement. There is no official update regarding their exams as well as the mode.
Notifications on Open Book Exams
Delhi University introduced Open Book Exams(OBE) for final year aspirants. This decision is taken in view of pandamic. The detailed datesheet for each course released on the official website of Delhi University
Final year students are opposing OBE as students from other semesters are passe on the basis of internal check. Whereas many feel that they don’t have mental stablity to give exams due to situations.
The university advises students to keep a regular check on the updates and informations.
