Two on screen legends were born on this day years ago. Sean Penn and Robert De Niro celebrate their birthday today i.e., 17 August. These birthday twins are friends and also co-starred in films since 1987. They first featured together in “Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam”. They acted together last in “What Just Happened” in 2008. These co-actors and friends share the same born-day today.

Born on August 17, 1960, Sean Justin Penn celebrates his 53rd birthday today. Nominated 5 times, Sean won 2 Oscars for Best Actor. He was honored by Oscars for his work in “Mystic River” and “Milk“. He was born in Los Angeles, California to Eileen Ryan and Leo Penn. His mother was an actress and father- director,writer and actor. It is evident that movie business was in his blood.

Actor Robert Anthony De Niro Jr. hits 70 today, born on August 17, 1943. He also acquired 2 Oscars out of which he was nominated seven times! His iconic works in The “Godfather, Part II” as Best Supporting Actor and “Raging Bull” as Best Actor won him these titles. He was also nominated for Golden Globe eight times and won one for “Raging Bull”. De Niro was also honored with AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.

De Niro was a drop out at the age of 16. He took part in different plays before he had his first film. His first movie “The Wedding Party” was shot in 1963 and released in 1969. He entered the direction field with “A Bronx TaleRobert” in 1993. Created his own production company in 1989 -Tribeca Film Center. He owns American and Irish citizenship. Robert co-starred with Al Pacino in famous gangster based movie ” The Irishmen”.
De Niro was titled as a Kennedy Center honoree in 2009. In 2011 he was honored with a Golden Globe lifetime achievement award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006.
He was married to Diahnne Abbott in 1976 which has to end in 1988. After marriage with Diahnne, Robert adopted her daughter born to her first spouse.
