The popular streaming OTT Platform Disney Plus Hotstar has released the season 2 of the Jhansi web series, which stars actress Anjali in the lead role. The show is now available on the OTT platform for viewers to enjoy. Let’s take a look at what the new season has to offer.
Story:
The story of the second season picks up right where the first season left off. Jhansi, also known as Mahitha (played by Anjali), is a patient with amnesia who discovers her past with the help of Ameesha (Nithu), a member of Billu’s (Suresh Chakravarthy) gang. She learns why her best friend Baarbie (Chandini Chowdary) became involved with the human trafficker Caleb (Raj Arjun) and the reason for the hostility between Jhansi and Caleb. The show also explores why Baarbie joined forces with Caleb, and whether Jhansi seeks revenge. All of these questions and more are answered in the new season.
Pros:
Anjali, reprising her role as Jhansi, delivers a powerful performance in the second season. She impressed audiences with her stunts in the first season and continues to do so in the second installment, but also shines in the emotional scenes. The flashback episode in the first episode was well done, with Anjali’s acting adding depth to the moments.
Chandini Chowdary also gives a standout performance in her role. Her character is well-written and has depth, with the conflict point between her and Anjali’s characters being neatly portrayed. The second season is shorter than the first, which is a positive for the show.
The action sequences are well-choreographed, making them enjoyable to watch. The screenplay was engaging and had some interesting moments. The show also touches on the relevant topic of human trafficking, presented in a simple but effective manner. Other actors such as Abeeram Varma, Raj Arjun, and Rameshwari Talluri also give solid performances in their respective roles.
Cons:
The show suffers from an overabundance of subplots, which limits its overall scope. Many of the characters have their own subplots, some of which are not relevant to the main plot. These subplots are introduced intermittently, disrupting the flow of the show and annoying viewers. They are also placed in between important sequences which causes confusion.
The show’s strong moments are fleeting, as the creators constantly interject unwanted sequences. The decision to split the show into two seasons does not make sense, and a single season with a more compelling narrative would have been more effective. Furthermore, the story does not conclude in the second season, leaving the audience with a cliffhanger for another season. The climax is weak and the final twist is not impactful. Once the flashbacks are over, the show falls back on the clichéd trope of revenge which is not executed well.
Conclusion:
Jhansi season 2 has its moments. Anjali’s performance is the highlight of the series, and the supporting cast also delivers solid performances. While there are some exciting moments, the overall lack of a compelling narrative makes this installment a mediocre watch at best. It’s a decent option for a weekend viewing, but not much more than that.
