Low-cost Subscription Plan by Netflix: The online streaming platform has come up with a new low-cost subscription plan in India aiming more subscribers. Named as Mobile+ plan in India, it is priced Rs.349 per month. The plan supports HD streaming in mobiles, tablets, and computers. TV streaming, however, is not supported.

Other Netflix plans

The cost is lesser than the basic Netflix plan priced at Rs 499 per month. Regardless, in this plan, the content can be streamed on TV as well. Netflix said in a statement, “We launched the Mobile Plan in India to make it easier for anyone with a smartphone to enjoy Netflix. We want to see if members like the added choice this offer brings. We’ll only roll it out long-term if they do.”

Netflix introduced its first mobile-only subscription plan in India in July 2019. It was priced Rs.199 – restricted to standard definition (SD). This was an added plan to the list of  Rs 499 basic plan, Rs 649 standard plan, and Rs 799 premium plan in India. Not to mention, Rs 799 premium plan offers 4K, HDR content, and supports UHD streaming on four screens at the same time.

Besides Netflix, there are other online streaming platforms that are of high demand including Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Disney Hotstar, and Zee5.  Amazon Prime Video subscription costs Rs 129 per month and Rs 999 a year. The monthly subscription of AppleTV is Rs 99. Disney content available on Hotstar in India has a Rs 999 annual and a Rs 299 monthly plan. Afterall, Hotstar offers free streaming for TV content but charges for International TV shows, and the latest movies.

Netflix has been trying out different strategies to develop and maintain its growth momentum in India. At the same time, the company already surpassed 193 million subscribers. Last week, the online streaming platform announced 17 original shows and movies that it plans to release in the coming months.
