Epic Games launched the War Troy Game as a free game on Total War’s 20th birthday. The game was created as an exclusive in Epic Games for twelve months. This free giveaway was a one-time offer for the game and there would be no such exclusives in the future. This free offer was made available only to reach out to a wider audience and that worked very well.
The game is based on the famous Trojan War of the Bronze Age. You can play as one of the Herpes and help to either conquer or protect the city of Troy.
COVID and Recreation
Given the tough times, many recreational services have been offering facilities at a much-reduced price. This is happening in the video-gaming sector as well. Along with the reduction in price, games are also receiving rising popularity. The same happened with the War Troy Game.
When Epic Games first decided to make the game available for free, its makers didn’t think it would turn out to be such a huge success. “We were optimistic but couldn’t have predicted this level of excitement,” the company’s Creative Assembly stated.

Customers rushed to have a copy of the game when they could have it for free instead of paying the regular price of $49.99. But 75 lakh was a huge number even for a free game. However, it all turned out well for the game makers.
The high number of downloads has successfully elevated the Epic Games Store above its rival developers. Also, Epic Games is paying the game makers- Sega and Feral Interactive- for every free download. Thus, the game developers are also earning huge revenue. They are likely to use it to further develop the Total War Saga series.
