Wipro has no plans to lay off any of the employees for now, says Rishad Premji. On Monday, the 74th annual general meeting(AGM) of Wipro was held virtually. Rishad Premji addressed the meeting as the chairman. Premji took hold of the post of the chairman last july.
Premji said that Wipro is trying to drive cost reduction through numerous other operational ways. But Wipro has not laid off any of its employees and does not have any such plans in near future, said Premji.
As the after effects of the Covid-19 pandemic (which has not been seized yet), the world is going through an economic crisis. Almost all the fields have faced recession during these times. Companies have been dismissing employees and hence, unemployment is reaching heights. Decreasing demands keep reducing the number of IT firms worldwide. And in recent months, due to the pandemic, the IT sector has seen massive layoffs. At this time, Wipro making such a big statement sustains the importance of employee well-being and security in the company.
For now, 93% employees of Wipro are working from home from all over the country. Premji said that they have triggered business continuity plans to cope up with the situation. The future working model of the company will be a hybrid model, added Premji.
Premji said that the hybrid models (work from home + office work) will be the future of the work models. And the companies are likely to make investments in that field, to power them with collaborative technologies. The enterprises will aspire to work with flexibility and agility. And those who can respond and adjust quickly to changing circumstances will be in advantage.
