Centre to DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) asked to seek help from Delhi government to repay loan. The soft loan taken from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for various projects are requested to pay. Moreover for the repayment of the loan the Center asked to take assistance of city government.
From Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) , DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) received a total loan of Rs 35,198 crore. Till date DMRC repaid Rs 3,337 crore to JICA. Still balance left is of Rs 31,861 crore. The loan granted to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation at a concessional rate. Like the interest usually varies from 1.2 per cent to 2.3 per cent was repayable in 30 years. Also with a moratorium of 10 years.
Loss incurred by Delhi Metro-
Due to the pandemic Delhi Metro has suspended their operation for a while. Since March 22, the DMRC was close in order to reduce the spread of the corona virus. As the county is going through lockdown a huge loss in every sectors faced. Similarly Delhi Metro also incurred a loss of around Rs 1,300 crore. This is considered a huge loss till date.
According to sources DMRC did not approach the city government till now to seek help for repayment of loan.
All though some sources claims that the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has asked all metros to write to their respective states for help in repayment of loans from external lending agencies.
Well DMRC is required to pay ₹ 1,242.83 crore (Rs 434.15 crore interest and ₹ 808.68 crore principal) in the financial year of 2020-21 to the Centre. The DMRC so far has paid ₹ 79.19 crore on account of interest during the current year. A balance of ₹ 1,163.64 crore is yet to pay to the Centre.
