Thomas Piketty is a French economist and an economics professor. Thomas Piketty latest book has parts about contemporary Chinese and about inequalities in Chinese economic, which was asked to censor. The author refuses to agree. “I refused these conditions and told them I would only accept a translation with no cut of any sort”…”They basically wanted to cut almost all parts referring to contemporary China, and in particular to inequality and opacity in China,” said Thomas Piketty. Consequently, the chances of selling the book in mainland China is less.
Before Thomas Piketty latest book, he wrote a book called “Capital and Ideology” last year. Xi Jinping liked his work. Although, due to the section talking about how the inequalities in the country it could not be published in mainland China.
Censorship in China applies to books, websites, movies and newspapers. This is because they do not want their people to know anything negative about the Chinese. Dali L Yang, professor of political science at the University of Chicago, believes that Chinese publishers usually have their conditions and changes agreed or even modifications in Chinese translations but that will not happen in Thomas Piketty latest book.
Piketty mentions in his book that the condition of China’s economy is just at the same level as the U.S.A. However, we never hear about the negative impact on their economy.
