TikTok WeChat security issues create tension between China and US

After  several questions on TikTok WeChat security, The USA launched a set of several restrictions on the apps.

The Chinese counterpart of WhatsApp, WeChat is under the ownership of a Chinese company, Tencent. In the year 2017, Tencent surpassed the monetary value of Facebook. The success of the app is due to the a large consumer base in Asia especially in the Chinese mainland.

Whereas, Tiktok is a platform for short videos where short videos can be uploaded about anything and everything. According to reports by SensorTower, a US based research agency, TikTok has crossed 2 billion downloads since 2017.

TikTok Wechat security charges tense up the relationship between China and US WeChat faces accusations of breaching the privacy of its users. Also, Tiktok faced several charges for national security breaches by collecting data.

Under International Emergency economic Power Act, President Donald trump issues several orders including the ban of the above two apps within 45 days.Trump declares, by 45 days an American company has to buy TikTok. Else USA will ban TikTok. Microsoft has come forward and will be taking over TikTok soon.

Over the ban of WeChat, the USA will stop all transactions with Tencent. It is world’s one of the biggest internet companies. Experts are expecting that the ties between the technological industries of both the countries will be affected.

On Wednesday, US secretary of states, mike Pompeo introduced programs to prevent the Chinese telecom firms and apps from accessing data and sensitive information on the USA citizens and businessmen.
