Apple Settles Lawsuit: In 2017 plaintiffs Latanya Simmons and Kevin Tobin filed a Class Action Lawsuit against Apple. They claimed that Apple has falsely advertised about the durability, waterproof ness, and battery life claims of Powerbeats 2. Now, Apple settled this lawsuit last evening for $9.75 Million. So, the customers who bought the Powerbeats 2 after August 7, 2020 can claim a payment for the settlement.
The Powerbeats 2 were launched in 2017 and they were very popular among people. They were launched with a hefty price tag of $199 (roughly ₹12,000) but in India they were even more expensive because of customs duty at ₹18,000. Though they were a bit overpriced they were one of the best wireless sports earphones in the market. The customers who bought the Powerbeats 2 after 7th August are eligible for a maximum payout of $189. The claimants without a proof of purchase will be eligible for an amount of $38. Whereas, the ones with the proof of purchase or warranty repairs will receive $76.

The money will be divided between all the plaintiffs after the payment of attorneys’ fees. And when all the related costs are covered. Only the claimants who have registered on the settlement website will receive claim for their product.
Powerbeats 2 were the best earphones in thier time for using in gym, running and other athletic activities because of their snug fit and those earhooks. Powerbeats are also said to be one of the loudest and bassiest earphones and till date there is no other champion. But a bummer for the Powerbeats 2 they could not hold up to their promise of lasting long. Usually Apple is known for delivering what they promised. But, it looks like they made a mistake this time and it cost them $9.75 million, which is alot and it wasn’t even their mainstream product.
