In the latest update Netflix’s show Gilmore girls broadcast on CW its home network again. It is very unique streaming to broadcast license deal. I don’t think we have ever heard of this. It’s a special thanksgiving deal as the 4-part series will broadcast on CW for four nights around thanksgiving. The CW has obtained the revival of Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the life of. The revival was originally streamed 4 years ago and now will make its free debut on Television.
Gilmore Girls Broadcast on CW will start from 23rd Nov and will run over four nights near thanksgiving. The deal was made very recently and wasn’t worked out previously with Warner Bros. TV when it revived the show. And most important of all this will be first time in history when Gilmore Girls: A Year in the life of will be seen anywhere apart from Netflix. Wow, Netflix is quite possessive! This also marks a rare occasion Netflix will license one of its originals to a Network, animated series Bojack Horseman being the first one.
Netflix and its Originals License
Netflix is known for never providing a License of its originals to anyone, be they programs produced in house or from a third party seller. It’s a part of their marketing strategy to obtain customers for their paid subscription. But during this pandemic that has changed, networks have been looking to streaming platforms to lend them programs to fill the gap till the new episodes can be produced. CW has obtained licenses for many popular shows like DC Universe Swamp Things. But Gilmore Girl broadcast on CW will so far be the rarest of acquisition.
While the main purpose of this deal is to fill a gap in the Thanksgiving slot, the revival will also regenerate interest in the original Gilmore Girls. And that is obviously beneficial for Netflix as the original is available exclusively on Netflix. While Netflix has never released data for its viewership a third party has released data that states that Gilmore girls revival was a hit among the views.
