Facebook’s software development kit to blame for popular apps crashing in iOS. Friday morning, popular apps including Spotify, Tinder, Pinterest and many more, faced problems to open in Apple’s devices. This problem was caused due to some changes in facebook’s software development kit (SDK).
SDK is a tool developers used to connect other apps to facebook. This helps one to login to an app using their facebook account’s data. Google and Apple also provide this service. When one uses facebook’s SDK to login to some app. Facebook automatically gets access to track the user’s activities on that app. This helps facebook as well as that app to record the user’s activity like how much time they spend on that app, how they respond to advertisements, etc. Hence, tracking their overall experience. This is a part of the big data analytics system, which is now not new to the world.
Changes in SDK, resulted in apps crashing on Friday morning. Hence, facebook’s software kit was to blame for popular apps crashing in iOS.
On Friday, the apps using facebook’s SDK crashed on iOS, due to some changes in facebook’s SDK. However, android users unaffected. The company accepted, “Earlier today, a code change triggered crashes for some iOS apps using the Facebook SDK”. The problem was however, resolved till 10.30 am, as reported by the company.
The devices where the user’s were not logged in to facebook also suffered these crashes. Infact, to use SDKs, the users need not even install the app necessarily, of which they’re using the SDK.
