Delhi government decided to cancel all the Delhi University exams including all semester and final year exams in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The news was tweeted by Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi. He also handles the state’s education ministry. Cancellation includes all the exams of all universities across the Capital. Delhi has several state universities. The capital city is one of the worst affected states in India. With an increasing number of cases every day, the government is taking all possible measures to combat the pandemic in National Capital.
The Delhi Technological University(DTU) exams for which the notifications were released earlier also come under this cancellation.
The schools and colleges had been shut throughout the course of pandemic and still remains so. The state capital called off school exams too and decided to promote students of 9th and 11th classes without having to attend the exam. The challenge with universities was that no classes took place and practicals and lab research couldn’t be carried out let alone academics. So it was concluded not to conduct any exams.
Minister Sisodia added that the final degree will be awarded by various universities based on evaluation parameters decided by them. They have been asked to come up with suitable parameters for awarding the final degree. He said that all students will be promoted to the upcoming semesters. Even though the university exams are cancelled, all the final year students will be given their degree based on the performance in previous semesters. He further added that such unexpected situations required tactic approach and that the final degree is awarded so that the students will not be affected in their future employment aspects.
During the press brief, Minister concluded that he hoped the cancellation of university exams would be of great relief to students who couldn’t study amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
