Google and Apple Preview New Emojis

Technology giants Google and Apple decided to introduce new emojis this year and gave a preview yesterday, July 17, on World Emoji Day. Unicode Consortium, the independent body which oversees the creation of emoji confirmed the introduction of new designs at the start of 2020.

Google

Google is introducing 62 new characters. This includes skin tone and gender variants. The company also proposed changes for some empathetic expressions to bring equity to the keyboard. Also, a few emojis were redesigned to make them look better in dark mode. Some of the emojis include woman feeding a baby, two people hugging, girls in tuxedo, an anatomical heart, teapot, boba tea, food grains tamale, and a long drum in addition to others. These are soon expected to be introduced in Android 11. However, these are not visible in the keyboard search now as of now.

Apple

Likewise, Apple is introducing around 117 new emojis. This will be included in the iPads, iPhone, and Mac. New ones include dodo, nesting dolls, tamale, pinata, boomerang, ninja, coin, beaver, transgender symbol, anatomical heart, bubble tea, and lungs among others. Not to mention, most of them are similar for both Google and Apple. Apple introduced the transgender symbol for the first time. Neutral gender symbols are also introduced in addition to this.

Apple further revealed about updates being introduced. Users can design emojis based on themselves. The company added they are revamping facial and muscle structure to make emojis more expressive. New headwear and hairstyles are also being introduced.
