Google Play has always been offering tons of entertainment services like Google Play Movies, Google Play Music, Google Play Books, etc. However, according to recent reports, Google is replacing the much loved Google Play Music with YouTube Music. Many are associating it with the launch of YouTube Music in 2018, that ended up overshadowing Google Play Music.
The Transition from Google Play Music to YouTube Music
Sine YouTube Music was launched in 2018, it has coexisted with Google Play Music. But Google quickly experienced a drop in its users, it was no longer actively developing. So Google instantly started adding new features to YouTube Music to convince its few users to migrate to the new platform. Google also introduced a migration tool recently that lets users transfer their songs, albums and playlists to YouTube Music. That way Google could ensure that all users migrated to the newer platform, aiding in Google Play Music shutting down. Now, Google Play Music is all set to shut down by October 2020.
According to the official YouTube blog. post, shutting down Google Play Music will happen very quickly. It is expected to happen for New Zealand and South Africa by September, and the rest of the world by October 2020. Google has also mentioned that they will give its users time till December to migrate all their files. After December, Google Play Music will be killed off forever.
The Migration
Google’s new migration tool allows you to transfer all your favourite songs, albums and playlists to YouTube Music. You can also transfer the podcasts to Google Podcasts. You can also transfer your purchases to YouTube Music. Plus, Google is giving you a lot of time to complete your successful migration. Although you can no more access the app from July, you are free to get done with all the transfers until December.
