WhatsApp will soon allow a new feature where you can use a single account on multiple devices. As of now, one can use multiple desktops with the same account but can use only one mobile device. A stable data or internet connection on the phone is required. With multi-platform support, multiple devices can be used with the same account. WhatsApp stood apart from other messaging apps as your account was tied to your physical device and phone number rather than something more portable like a user name and password.
New features
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp v2.20.196.8 beta for Android has given a glimpse of two features that include advanced search and multiple device support. It shows a fresh development on the multi-device feature showcasing a “Linked Devices” screen on the app.
The message on the screenshot reads, “Use WhatsApp on other devices. Send or receive messages from your browser computer or Facebook portal.” Also, right below the message, “Link a new device” option is visible. Regardless, the blog says the update is subject to change. This is because the feature is still under development and no official announcement has been made yet.
WABetaInfo says that users will be able to link devices using a code delivered either via SMS or WhatsApp Chat.
The feature can be accessed by tapping on the three dots on the upper right corner of the app’s main screen. Once enabled, WhatsApp will let you use your account on multiple devices at a time without having to log out. Users can simultaneously have conversations from any of their devices and the data is likely to get synchronized.
The feature is still under development and the exact date it will be rolled out to the public is unknown.
