Sony Corp recently revealed that they are working on a new VR headset. This was a part of job recruiting message in Japan. Many are evident about this being PSVR. Playstation VR is a headset compatible for PS4. It was released in 2016 and sold over 5 million units till date. This new headset is believed to be successor of PSVR- PSVR 2. Though the company didn’t clearly mention anything, the chronology of releases support the predictions.

PS5 and PSVR 2.
Sony announced it’s new console in PS series PS5 in June 2020. It is set to release by the end of the year. With PS5 release date near, Sony revealed it’s new VR headset project. This aroused the hopes of fans waiting for PSVR 2. The job listing post was in Japanese and translated in English through Google Translate. Though translation could not be completely trusted, it did not show any traces of PSVR 2.

Next Generation VR Headset.
Sony said it is working on “Next Generation VR Headset” and is recruiting for the same. It is evident that Sony is recruiting expert technicians to create something huge. They require new 15 technicians for various branches of creation of a VR. The translation says, “We are developing a head-mounted display for next-generation VR, and we are in charge of mechanical design of barrels and small and lightweight housings that support optical systems, heat dissipation design, and development of jigs for optical system evaluation.”

Maybe not PSVR 2.
Few evidences incline against the theory of PSVR 2. The fact that the job of this new headset was given to Sony Corporation and not Sony Interactive Entertainment. Sony Interactive Entertainment handles the Playstation related actions. The company handed over the project to Sony Corporation for much larger purpose than just PSVR. Also it will be released 5 years later, the translation suggests . Why would they plan it such farther? Although PSVR is compatible with PS5, audience are waiting for a newer version.
