Tesla Autopilot scores low for Driver Engagement in European Safety Rating. In the 10 driver assistance test, Tesla managed to score a 6th position.
Tesla Model 3’s scored 36 in its ability to maintain a driver’s focus on the road. In performance and ability to respond to emergencies, it scored the highest of all. The overall score received by Tesla was 131. It was rated as ‘moderate’.
On the other hand, Mercedes scored 174, highest of all and received rank as ‘very good’. In driver engagement, Mercedes received a score of 85. However, other vehicles scored 70 or above in driver engagement.
About the tests:
The assessment done by The European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), gives first consumer ratings. The rating is given by them basically focuses on driver assistance systems and acceleration, braking and steering support.
Furthermore, Tesla’s Autopilot scores low and faced criticism by the US National Transportation Safety Board. On investigation, Board found out that since 2016, the number of an accident of Tesla’s Autopilot motors were 15 crashes.
In addition to Mercedes, BMW 3-Series and Audi Q8 also received ‘very good’ rating and Renault Cleo and Peugeot received the lowest rating of ‘entry’.
