Another day, another movie delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Folk’s the Prequel of King’s Man which was all set to release this 18th September is delayed again. This is not the first that the King’s Man delay has been reported. Originally it was supposed to primmer in November 2019. Since the theaters in California and New York are still not open due to the Pandemic, The King’s Man will now release on 26th February 2021. This gives the maker more time to shoot and deal with all the concerns regarding the pandemic. Because California and New York are the top box office theaters the filmmakers are reluctant to release their expensive movies when the theaters have not set any tentative dates to open.
Disney inherited the Kingsman Franchisee when they took over the 20th Century Fox studio. It is an important title for Disney. This prequel is the story of the origin of the Private British intelligence service. The service was portrayed in both the previous movies King’s man: The secret service and King’s man: The golden circle. The events of the film happen in the 19th century and show how the Spy agency came into existence. It is a period Action comedy movie which is directed by Mathew Vaughn. Mathew Vaughn was the director of both the previous movies too and both of them were box office hits grossing more than $800 million. For the King’s Man screenplay Mathew collaborated with Karl Gajdusek. The cast of this prequel is Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Djimon Hounsou, and Daniel Brühl.
Delay not a Surprise!
Though the news of King’s Man delay is not unexpected as Disney has shelved some of its movies for later releases amid the Pandemic. And it is not surprising as Disney has released some big titles on its streaming service Disney plus like Mulan. But there was no word at all about Kingsman, it wasn’t promoted at all.
Since some cinema halls have opened and are depending upon release of new titles for running. This news of King’s Man delay is not good for them. But Disney hasn’t abandoned them completely it will release The New Mutants. But we will have to see how it does.
