The US House Panel recently announced contempt proceedings against Mike Pompeo on grounds on misusing political resources. His refusal to comply with a subpoena for records looking into the “political misuse” is what led him to this. Pompeo had recently been in the use after openly citing his criticization of Joe Bidden as the potential US President.
About Mike Pompeo
Mike Pompeo is a native American and has been in the American political scenario since long. Pompeo is currently the 70th US Secretary of State since 2018. He had also served the US Army in the past and had been the Director of Central Intelligence Agency before he joined office. He is a Republic Party democrat.
Pompeo came under the radar after he demanded an investigation into Joe Bidden’s nomination for the post of the American President.
About the contempt proceedings
It all started when Pompeo refused to turn in the documents through which he demanded an investigation into Bidden’s nomination. A Republican-led Senate Committee was already looking into some information regarding Bidden’s son. Pompeo had promised to turn those documents into the House Committee once they started looking into the same.
The House Committee Chairman Eliot Engel is critical of this behaviour of Pompeo. He mentions that Pompeo thinks that his political power can be used for his personal benefit. But a state representative termed Engel’s statement as ‘political theatrics’. He mentions that the documents will be sent to the committee once they send an explanation letter. The letter should ably explain the investigation that requires those documents. He also mentioned that those documents are currently with the Senate Committee.
The US House Foreign Affairs Committee hence announced contempt proceedings against Mike Pompeo on August 28. The election time is surely creating a lot of controversies in the US.
