Birthday Today: The British singer and songwriter Adele turned 32 today. Born on May 5, 1988, she was raised by her single mother in London and started to sing just at the age of four. In her childhood itself, she was obsessed with voices and learnt to play guitar.
In her song “Million Years Ago” which released in 2015, she recalls her childhood days in London where she would spend a lot of time in Brockwell Park playing guitar and singing to her friends. She has gone on record stating that she has spent some monumental moments of her life back in London and she misses it with all her heart.
Back in the past, Adele had recorded a three-song demo for a class project and had shared it with her friend who posted it on Myspace, where it garnered praises and success. Such was the success that it led her to receive a phone call from Richard Russell who was the boss of XL Recordings music label. It was huge for her and she couldn’t believe that the call was real. Then, there was no looking back.
In June 2007, Adele made her television debut by performing her song “Daydreamer”. In the October of the same year, she released her breakthrough song “Hometown Glory” which she had written at 16 years of age.
By the next year, Adele had already become the headliner and performed an acoustic set supported by Damien Rice. For the same, she became the first recipient of the Brit Awards Critics’ choice. The album she wrote and composed songs of, at the age of 19, also known as ‘19’, were a huge hit and entered the British charts at number one. She then released her second single in 2008 named “Chasing Pavements” which also garnered her huge success and it reached the second position on the UK charts where it remained for a month.
A series of hit songs, award nominations and successful wins followed with songs like “Someone like you”, “Rolling in the deep”, “Set fire to the rain”, “Skyfall” and “Hello” to name a few. She kept on adding feather in her hat with each venture and started undertaking musical tours becoming a global icon.
Adele is currently working on her fourth studio album since 2018 which is reportedly to be released in September this year. She also ended her eight year marriage in 2019 and has decided to completely transform her physique. She is currently in her happy space and is looking towards brighter years.
