Do you like sneakers? Well, I am sure you just like them and are not obsessed with them. People can be obsessed with sneakers? Well yes! To really see that in action you have to watch Netflix’s Sneakerheads. As the name suggests these people are addicted to sneakers.
Every day is a new adventure for, they set out to find a new treasure because one is never enough. In Netflix’s Sneakerheads, we see characters who are always on the hunt for the rarest addition of sneakers. Sometimes it feels like it’s more about the thrill the chase gives them than the actual sneaker. It always shows that finding the treasure is never enough their thirst for a hunt is never-ending. They are always in search of something big, something better. It’s all about temptation.
A glimpse at the Plot
Netflix’s Sneakerheads has 6 breezy episodes and in each episode we see the “Sneakerheads” looking for another big thrill. They repeat the dynamic again and again. But how does it not become repetitive? Well because of its brilliant execution and conception.
In the pilot episode, we see a recovering Sneakerhead Devin, who has left his collection days behind for the love of his life Christine. But a single run-in with his old partner and he back in the game in the blink of the eye. Sneakers really can be an addiction.
The pilot episode is a story of how Devin tries to find a favorite pair of sneakers in his size and from then on its one big adventure. New characters join the group; they go on a hunt for Mystical Air Jordan’s. You get a great dose of comedy from some interactions, but it just gets boring after some time. The plot moves in a circle and it doesn’t help that Devin’s wife has not been given any depth. Since Devin is apparently given up his hobby because of her, we would have liked to know her.
But Dave Meyers directing saves the day. He can make even the most boring narrative worth watching. And that’s what he has exactly done in Netflix’s Sneakerheads. The beauty with which the show keeps moving is a piece of art.
Sneakerheads premiered on 25th September 2020.
