2020 has been a very disastrous year. In spite of the many challenges faced by people this year, the technological market in India is still in the good quarter, especially the smartphone market. There has been a growth in the sales of smartphones in the past few months, owing to the ‘work from home’ and ‘online class’ situation. Hence the question arises that which smartphone is leading the smartphone market in India now? I guess not all people will be surprised when I say the answer is OnePlus, Q2 2020 seems to be all about that.
What led OnePlus to dominate the Indian smartphone market?
According to most stipulations, the launch of two new flagship smartphones- OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8, is seemingly drawing more and more attention to the brand. These two devices feature 5G connectivity and the Pro model even has a 30W fast wireless charging. A certification against dust and water resistance has also been provided, and it has successfully drawn more customers to the brand. To top it all, OnePlus also introduced a price-cut in OnePlus 7T series that further helped to alleviate the position of the brand. With this, OnePlus successfully thwarted away Samsung to secure the top position in Q2 2020. Even Apple fell back to the third position due to the intensifying competition.
What drew consumers to OnePlus in Q2 2020?
To begin with, OnePlus came out with two new flagships in the midst of a pandemic. This was the time when many people ventured out to buy new phones because of the work-from-home scenarios. The new OnePlus offered 5G connectivity along with Wi-Fi 6-enabling its users to avail the latest and fastest connectivity solution. It also introduced a wireless charging feature which can increase the battery life up to 50% in just half an hour. They also offered a good choice of colours with a gradient finish- Onyx Black, Glacial Green and Interstellar Glow, which was replaced by Ultramarine Blue in the Pro model. The new series also featured hole-punch cameras. All these features were very unique and quite new in the Indian smartphone market. Even the colours were far from basic. These definitely helped in the domination over the Indian smartphone market by OnePlus in Q2 2020.
OnePlus v/s iPhone
OnePlus v/s iPhone is quite a war that has been very evident in Q2 2020. The newest iPhones came out just last year but cost around $200 than the OnePlus 8 Pro. Plus, the wireless charging speed in the new iPhones is just 7.5 W. It will take up to one and a half hour to charge 50%, an hour more than the OnePlus phones.
OnePlus 8 vs iPhone 11
The OnePlus phones are expensive too, but the price hike seems justified with the addition of new features. Maybe that’s why it’s reigning out smartphone market.
