Rep. Ilhan Omar wins contentious primary election Elections

Rep. Ilhan Omar: According to press reports on Tuesday Rep. Ilhan Omar won one of the most closely-watched and most expensive primaries in Minnesota. While beating her primary opponent, Antone Melton-Meaux, by just over 28,000 votes. That is 57.4% of the vote share till now. Rep. Ilhan Omar won the election.

 After winning Rep. Ilhan Omar wrote a series of tweet on Tuesday night-

“In Minnesota, we know that organized people will always beat organized money, Tonight, our movement didn’t just win. We earned a mandate for change. Despite outside efforts to defeat us, we once again broke turnout records. Despite the attacks, our support has only grown. This election isn’t about me. It’s about an agenda rooted in people’s everyday struggles—and the corporations and rightwing donors who are threatened by it.”

The margin of victory of the congress women increased by 9.15% over 2018. According to the Omar about or more than $6 million spent to defeat her in primary challenges and traditional outside groups.

About Melton-Meaux

Melton-Meaux is a Black lawyer and mediator, who was Omar’s most serious challenger. Even he had repeatedly critiqued Rep. Ilhan Omar Even in an interview with a news channel Melton-Meaux said – He wants to address the “underlying systemic issues of racism”. Also he said he would look into the issues of the inequities in education, housing, health care and the economy.

Whereas Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Somali-American refugee, came into limelight when she became the first Muslim woman to be elected into Congress in 2018. She has a  progressive  national profile. But often criticized by her opponents as they weaponized her celebrity status.
