Starring Jude Law The Third Day has a time tested storyline. It is such a cliche a Lost Man, a mysterious Island, and add in some eccentric locals we have got a recipe for Erie. A collaboration between HBO, Sky Studios, Plan B Entertainment and not to forget Punchdrunk International resulted in “The Third Day”. The series is divided into two halves or Seasons we should say “Summer” and “Winter”.
The first half Summer is directed by Marc Munden and the second half of the series is directed by a different director Philippa Lowthrope. But wait for it there is a twist there is a third season. While the First half “Summer” starting Jude Law the Third Day has Three episodes, the Last Half Winter Stars Naomi Harris has the last three episodes. There is “Fall” in between it bridges the whole series together it is alive 12 hours’ online experience and is known as “Theatrical Experience”.
The first half opens with Jude Law as Sam who is a husband and a father out on a solo trip to essentially find himself. His destination is the Boonies of Great Britain. But a detour for reasons which you should watch it to find out the lands in Osea. What should have been a small detour becomes a haunting erie journey into self-discovery which Sam is not yet ready for. Osea is a weird mysterious small Island filled with folklore and rituals in the name of Christianity. As Sam learns more about the Island with one of its rituals being Human Sacrifice he is ready to run out of there. But some mysterious Force keeps him there.
All About “The Third Day”
The reason for Sam stay in Osea is revealed in the Second Half. Staring Naomi Harris, the location is the same Osea with the same supporting Characters but the Time is different. While there are plenty of Plot twists, instead of keeping things interesting, they confuse the audience. The story is pretty simple but the vagueness of all the concepts and without having anything interesting added about it fails to reel in the viewer.
Starring Jude Law Third Day has got the mysterious and Erie down. But it couldn’t tell the story which goes with it. With so many ideas swimming around, numerous characters, mixed direction, and writing the Show is as Lost as its Characters. Even Jude Law’s phenomenal performance couldn’t save this lost cause. With summer ending the viewers have more questions than answers as to the context of the show. You will feel dazed and confused with the overload of aesthetics and concepts.
And I know I haven’t said a lot about Winter. But that’s just because I don’t want to spoil things for the fans. And Fall is as of yet an unknown entity. How it will take place has to be seen. But since we have yet to see fall and winter we can give The Third Day benefit of the doubt.
