Wrestling legend Dan Gable to receive Presidential Medal of Freedom award

On Monday, the President of the United States of America will award Dan Gable with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This distinguished award is the nation’s highest civil decoration. Gable is without a doubt one of the best wrestlers of all time. He was born and raised in Iowa. Gable represented his home state on the mat at Iowa State University. He recorded an astonishing 117-1 record. Gable was a two-time NCAA Wrestling Champion. He was also a three-time All-American and Big Eight Champion. Gable further represented the United States of America on the international level. He won titles at the 1971 Pan American Games. He further took part in the World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. The 1972 Tbilisi Tournament and the six Jordan Opens also featured him.

In the 1972 Summer Olympics, he won a Gold Medal. This was the beginning of his popularity. He became the University of Iowa’s most prolific coach in history. His teams won 15 NCAA National Team championships from 1976 to 1997. He also posted a stunning career record of 355-21. 152 All-American, 45 State Champions, 106 Big Ten Champions. he also went to coach  12 Olympians. Dan Gable has coached at 5 Olympic Games. He also coached players for 6 United States World Teams. He has also coached for 10 World Cups. For his unparallel achievements, Gable has received many well-deserved accolades. The Amateur Athletic Union and the United States Wrestling Federation named him as the ‘Nation’s Best Wrestler’  and ESPN’s top sports figure in Iowa in the last 100 years.

Dan Gable is also in the Wrestling Hall of Fame of the United States of America. He is also present in the Olympic Hall of Fame of the United States. Gable has inspired millions of sports personalities all across the world. Today, Gable still lives with his wife Kathy in the Hawkeye Province. He’s an artist, an inspirational speaker, a dad, and a grandfather.
