Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett tied for entertainer of the year award; at the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards. This is the first time the top prize has been shared by two artists.
Underwood and Rhett, were surprised when the host, Keith Urban, revealed the tie at Wednesday’s Grand Ole Opry House, awards show.

Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the broadcast on CBS had been postponed for months. Later they relocated from Las Vegas to Nashville for the first time and performed at vacant theaters without audience. The fans had waited eagerly in much anticipation for the show.
Old Dominion’s lead singer, Ramsey said the empty and vacant theaters and the silence made him think of the friends and family they had lost.
Furthermore, Urban noticed all the adjustments for the Academy of Country awards this year; and for the nation in general; and said that 2020 was an ‘unpredictable and disturbing’ year.
The show also featured Taylor Swift making her first appearance in seven years at the ACMs. Underwood ‘s victory was her third and Rhett’s first in that category. Coincidentally, this is the first time a woman has won that award since 2011; when Swift last won it.
Moreover, Rhett also won music video of the year at the Academy of Country Music awards. The same was revealed before the show aired.
Underwood performed a song in tribute to some of the popular female Opry members. She said, “They are some of my idols and I’m so proud to be standing alongside them as a fellow member of the Opry.”
The award is considered a precious one among country musicians as well as fans. While some fans were not very happy to see it being shared by two artists, others were really pleased and astonished with the results.
