A naxal couple surrendered before SP Mohammed Arshi in Seraikela-Kharsawa district. Rakesh munda and Chandni sardar escaped their naxalite group and surrendered in the month of June. Both of them participated in violent naxal activities under the CPI Maoist organization(banned) lead by Maharaj Pramanik.
Rakesh munda lead the naxal activities around Kuchai district. He had on him, 6 cases and a reward of 2 lakhs. Chandni sardar too joined the group at an early age. She was said to be abducted by Pramanik, and this is how she entered the group at the first place.
As the naxalite background would not let them to marry each other and have a peaceful life, the naxal couple decided to surrender. And they escaped the group. Because of the escape the naxal couple surrendered without arms, as said by SP Mohammed Arshi.
State government’s surrender policy
The chhattisgarh state government’s surender policy for naxals seems to attract many rebels to return to mainstream. However, one of the main reason for this naxal couple for the surrender is their falling in love with each other. The lady rebel said she wanted to return to mainstream and start a family.
The government’s surender policy offers ₹ 3 lakhs cash each, 4 dismil plot to build a house of their own, ₹ 40,000 to train for a mainstream career, life insurance worth ₹ 5 lakhs, free education for their children and the reward money as well. The naxal couple will have their perks of the surrender. The government will give full support to the rebels to lead a normal life.
The naxal couple received ₹ 1 lakh each immediately after the surrender. And will recieve the other 2 lakhs in next 2 years, as said by the SP.
They sent both of them to Seraikela Divisional Jail after a court trial.
